Vogue 100: A Century of Style at the National Portrait Gallery in London
In 1916 during WWI, American Vogue couldn't cross the Pond therefore a British version was created. One hundred years later and British Vogue has celebrated everything from beauty and fashion to covering major global events.
Vogue 100: A Century of Style at the National Portrait Gallery in London, is a collection of the last century of fashion and style. You'll have a chance to view a selection of the magazines from the very first issue published in 1916! Which by the way did not look at all what I would expect. It was an actual hard copy and looked more like a book with an illustration as a cover. Simply lovely! The exhibit is divided by decades, short films, and unseen before photography.
British Vogue contributing editor, Robin Muir is the curator of the Vogue 100: A Century of Style Exhibit. A result of five years of research, Muir with a team of assistants, had the difficult task of securing photographic images that were either in the hands of private collectors or museums and even one image which was found on ebay.
Plan a few hours to really have a chance to thoroughly enjoy all the fine details. Hopefully, I will have a chance to go back as I would've loved to have read more from the pages of Vogue's early copies. And have a chance to shop at the gift shop which was closed as I was exiting. I did have a peak though!
